Men's Chorus

Men's chorus - What exactly is it?

The Joliet West Men's Chorus is a seasonal group open to guys of any skill level.  This group gives guys a chance to sample choir and decide if taking a choir class might be of interest while creating an outlet to sing great music.  The Men's Chorus mostly learns by ear, and gives an introduction to how the choir classes function.

When does it meet?
Men's Choir will meet from 3:25-4:00 on November 7, 14, 21, 28 and December 5th

When/where does the Men's Chorus perform?
The Men's Choir will perform twice.  On December 1st at The Songs of the Season Holiday Benefit dinner at the Jacob Henry Ballroom and on December 8th at the Winter Choral Concert in the auditorium.

What if I don't enjoy this?
This group is designed to give a taste of the choral styles of Joliet West, if you do not enjoy yourself, you may elect to not come the following weeks.  There is no long term commitment, obviously, we hope you have a great time and want to make choir a bigger part of your life.

What if I do want to join choir?
For gentlemen, the journey usually begins with Mixed Chorus, which meets period 3.  If your schedule allows for it, you could join as soon as second semester this year.  Joining mid-year means compensating with the understanding that you are semester behind your classmates, but it is possible with a willing attitude.

The Concert Choir is available by audition.  Auditions are in February/March for the following year.  Moving directly into Concert Choir requires music reading skills.  If you are interested in this option, please have a conversation about it with Mr. DeBoer and he could advise you on whether Concert Choir or Mixed Chorus would be a better fit for your curricular needs.
